Music is taught as part of our cross curricular topics in all year groups. Children listen to a variety of music genres in assembly and some lessons to help to enhance their musical, historical and cultural knowledge. School is introducing the use of KAPOW to enhance the children’s ability to appraise, rehearse, perform and compose a wide variety of genres of music. Early Years and KS1 children are both taught by an external music specialist who focuses on singing and using percussion instruments to teach the early stages of music skills. This is further developed as children move through school. Year 3/4 received weekly ukulele lessons to deepen their understanding of notation and performance, which is then further extended as children in Year 6 come together to perform whole class RockBand. This allows them to experience a range of instruments. These experiences allow our children to grow in confidence when performing to an audiences throughout the years.
